TUCSON, Ariz. - The second round of the 2002 PING-Arizona Intercollegiate was suspended Monday at 6:15 p.m. MST due to darkness. About two-thirds of the field still has holes to play, and some groups will have to finish two holes before the third round can begin.

Play will resume Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 7:30 a.m. MST with the completion of the second round. The final round will follow at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Southern California, the defending tournament champion, leads the field by six strokes after the first round of play. The Trojans carded a 281 (-3) team total in the opening round to lead the 20-team field by one stroke. New Mexico (282), Oklahoma State (283) and Pepperdine (284) round out the top four places.

Individually, three players are tied for the lead after Monday's 18 holes, as UC-Irvine's Mike Lavery, Oklahoma State's Hunter Mahan and New Mexico's Jay Reynolds each fired a four-under par 67. All told, there were 16 players within three strokes of the lead after the first round.

Tournament host Arizona currently stands in a tie for fifth place with California after posting an opening-round 287 (+3). Leading the way individually for the Wildcats was sophomore Chris Nallen, who shot a one-under 70 and stands in a tie for 11th place. Teammate Ricky Barnes tallied an even-par 71 and is tied for 17th place, four shots off the pace.

Other Arizona varsity participants included Reid Hatley and Nathan Lashley, who both shot a 73 (+2) and are tied for 40th place, and Andy Connell, who carded a 78 (+7) and is tied for 88th place.

The Arizona Junior Varsity currently stands in 14th place after Monday's 294 (+10) total. Brian Woolf and Kipp Riehle both stand tied for 24th place after opening-round 72s (+1). Brandon Smith (74/T54th), Steven Eshbach (76/T74th) and Tim Weiss (79/T94th) rounded out the junior varsity participants.

Nick Jusczak, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 24th place after his opening-round 72 (+1).

The 54-hole tournament is being contested at The Raven at Sabino Springs, a par 71, 6,776-yard facility.
