WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Karin Wurm has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for March 13-19, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Wurm, a sophomore from Landenberg, Pa., won her first career all-around title, while helping the Wildcats to their highest team score since March 20, 2004. In doing so, Wurm placed in the Top-5 in all four individual events, as Arizona set season-highs on both vault and floor. The Wildcats (196.575) defeated then-No. 23 Brigham Young (193.725) and host Texas Women's University (191.425) on Mar. 17.

“She had a great, great meet,” head coach Bill Ryden said following the meet last Saturday. “She was really on tonight. I’m very happy for her. We had seen this meet coming from her for a while now.”

Wurm, who has competed as an all-arounder 11 times in her career, totaled a 39.4 in the all-around last week, as the Wildcats knocked off their second-consecutive ranked opponent, and fourth of the season. The all-around mark is the highest from any Wildcat gymnast since Monica Bisordi recorded a 39.5 at the Pac-10 Championships on March 20, 2004. The mark shattered her previous career-high of 39.25, which she set twice this season.

On vault, the 5-4 gymnast shared the individual title with teammate Bree Workman. The score of 9.9 was well above her season average of 9.735, and broke her previous career-high mark of 9.825. It is her third vault title of the season, and her eighth Top-5 finish in the event. The score helped Arizona to its highest team score in the event, 49.35, since March 12, 2004.

On bars, Wurm scored well-above her season average of 9.745, earning a 9.8. The score was good enough to tie for second place in the meet, and earned her a sixth Top-5 finish in the event for the year, and 11th of her career.

On beam, Wurm broke her previous career-high of 9.775, with a second-place mark of 9.9, above her season average of 9.643. The score helped Arizona to a team score of 49.125, the school's highest since Jan. 27, 2006, while earning her second career Top-5 finish of her career.

Wurm also had a career-best performance on floor, helping Arizona match its season-best team score of 49.225 in the event. In doing so, Wurm captured her fourth floor title of the season with a career-high 9.9, surpassing her previous high of 9.875, which she had set in each of the three previous meets.

Wurm becomes the third Wildcat to be named Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week this season. Previously, juniors Aubrey Taylor (Jan. 24-30) and Jamie Holton (Feb. 20-26) have been honored.

Arizona will be in action next at the Pac-10 Championships on Sat., Mar. 25, in Corvallis, Ore.
