TUCSON -

Hillenbrand Invitational

Game 7

Alicia Hollowell threw a perfect game and struck out a career-high 20 batters in leading Arizona to 6-0 victory over Indiana in Saturday afternoon action at the Hillenbrand Invitational tournament.

Hollowell allowed only a ground ball Abby Stark batting second in the third inning. The rest were whiffs. The 20 strikeouts are a school record for a regulation game, eclipsing several previous marks of 17 including one by Hollowell this year.

The perfect game was the third in UA history and the first since Susie Parra did the feat against California on April 18, 1993.

Arizona scored a run in the first, but potentially had a bigger opportunity with the bases loaded and one out. Caitlin Lowe was hit by a pitch, Autumn Champion hit an infield single, Wendy Allen struck out and Mackenzie Vandergeest walked. Shelly Schultz' sharp grounder to first brought in Lowe, but Champion was thrown out at the plate to complete a double play.

The UA's short game helped put the Cats on the board again in the third. Allyson Von Liechtenstein reached on a bunt single, Lowe hit a n infield single and both runners moved up when no one covered first base and the throw sailed past, then Champion's slap single up the middle brought in both runners.

In the fifth, Von Liechtenstein led off with a single, Lowe was hit by another pitch, and a double steal moved them to second and third. Champion's infield grounder brought in one run and Crystal Farley's pinch-hit roller also brought in a run to make it 5-0.

Kristie Fox hit a two-out solo home run, her sixth of the year, to give the the Cats another run.in the top of the sixth. It was UA's 40th home run of the year in 23 games.

UA improved to 23-0 and was to play No. 24-ranked Georgia Tech in the game immediately following. Indiana dropped to 7-10.
