TUCSON, Ariz. ?- University of Arizona women’s golf coach Greg Allen signed one student-athlete to a National Letter-of-Intent on Thursday.

Hailing from Scottsdale, Ariz., Esther Choe is a decorated player in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), having been named one of two Rolex Junior Players of the Year in 2006.  She currently attends Cave Creek High School.

Choe is currently ranked No. 3 in the Golfweek/Titleist Junior Rankings.

The 2006 season brought Choe three AJGA victories, including wins at the Rolex Girls Junior Championship and the PING Invitational, where she set a course record four-under 68 in the opening round.  Choe also collected four top-three finishes during the 2006 campaign.

Throughout her career, Choe has accumulated six AJGA titles, four Rolex Junior All-American accolades, and has been selected for three Canon Cup West Teams and two PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Teams.

“Esther Choe is one the biggest, if not the biggest, recruit we have ever signed,” Allen said. “In my opinion, Choe’s resume in her respective sport is as good as any resume of any athlete at Arizona.”

Choe also played in the 2005 U.S. Women’s Open and was the 2004 British Junior Open Champion.

At the high school level, Choe is a two-time Class 4A girls’ state champion winner.

“We are excited to have her be part of the team next year because she brings so many good qualities on and off of the course to the team,” said Allen.  “She is going to fit in nicely with what we have going.”
