TUCSON - University of Arizona Wildcat women's golf junior Margarita Ramos wrapped up her winter break with a tournament victory in her native Mexico this weekend.
Ramos won the National Amateur Tournament at the Club de Golf Vallescondido on Sunday. She carded a four-day, six-over par total of 294. She shot rounds of 72, 73, 78 and a tournament-best 71.
"I had to work for this win every round of play," Ramos said. "This course has some very difficult holes and playing here has really helped my confidence. I had to stay patient and play my game."
"This win is really a testament to Margarita's work ethic, this fall and during her winter break," head coach Laura Ianello said. "This is a big win for her and having it come in her native Mexico is also very exciting. We are thrilled for Margarita and are looking forward to a great spring of golf."
Arizona will open the spring season Feb. 6-8 with the Wildcat Invitational, in Tucson. The event will be held at Arizona National Golf Club.
