Tucson , Ariz. ?C The Arizona volleyball team improved to 2-0 on the young 2007 season with a sweep of Eastern Washington in the Wildcatsˇ? second match of the Four Points University Plaza Wildcat Classic on Friday night in McKale Center.? Game scores were 30-25, 30-18 and 30-24.

The Wildcats hit .179 (39-19-112) on the night, tallied 11 team blocks, and held the Eagles to a .008 (30-29-119) hitting percentage.

?

ˇ?In the first match earlier today against Utah State, we were playing steady volleyball to be proud of,ˇ± head coach Dave Rubio said.? ˇ?Tonight, Eastern Washington did a good job of taking us out of our game. Even though we won in three (matches), things were chaotic on our side of the net.ˇ±

Eight different Wildcats tallied kills in the match, led by sophomore Jacy Norton, who posted nine kills on a .750 hitting percentage.? Senior Dominique Lamb notched six kills and eight blocks, and juniors Brooke Buringrud and Randy Goodenough posted six kills apiece.? Freshman Paige Weber finished with two kills and a match-high 35 assists.

Hayley Hills finished with a match-high 15 kills to lead Eastern Washington.

ˇ?Eastern Washington did a great job of defending us and we did poorly with our attacks at times,ˇ± Rubio said.?? ˇ?We just have to get better at dealing with situations like this. We are going through some growing pains and we need to work on getting rid of some inconsistencies.ˇ±

Arizona started out slow in the first game, falling behind 10-7 early on.? The Eagles battled Arizona tough down the stretch, but after being tied at 19-19, the Wildcats put together an 11-6 scoring run to end game one with a win.

UA used a strong second game to cruise to a 30-18 win behind a .306 (14-3-36) team hitting percentage.

?

The third game was closely contested, as the Eagles led 13-8 early on and took the game to a 23-23 tie.? Arizona used a 7-1 run down the stretch to hold off EWU and complete the sweep.

The Wildcats will next take on Saint Maryˇ?s on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. in McKale Center.
