I hope that everyone had a GREAT thanksgiving!!!  Last week, we only practiced twice because about half the team went home for the Thanksgiving holiday.  On Monday, we had a mock competition on vault, where John put us up head-to-head against our teammates.  It was a fun way to see who could bring their “A-game” to the table under pressure.  The vault team is looking really good and we have more vaulters with a 10.0 start value than we have had in a long time.  The practice on Tuesday continued to be very productive, and everyone who was going home was excited to go see their families.

Bright and early Wednesday morning the team did weights so that some of the girls could catch their flights.  Others on the team still had class scheduled but were staying in Tucson.  The girls who went home had an amazing time visiting with family and friends, even though I think they would have enjoyed laying at the pool with me, instead of venturing into the snow.  Of the girls that stayed in Tucson, some family members came here.  Melanie had her knee surgery on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, so her mom came down and cooked me and some of the girls a nice turkey dinner.  Melanie is recovering exceptionally fast and is already able to walk a little bit on it.  Jamie Holton and Suzanne celebrated with Jamie’s parents at their house, and Aubrey’s parents came down to celebrate with her and her husband, Jesse.  Everyone had a relaxing weekend and break in preparation for the coming season.  Some of us also got a nice surprise when Erin, who was a senior on the team last year, came down for a night to visit.  She is doing well and we hope to see her back in Tucson for a meet later in the season.

The team seemed eager and excited to get back in to the gym today.  There is only 1?˝ weeks left of school in the semester before exams, and the team is continuing to improve.  On Friday of this week we will be having our first intersquad.  There will be a predetermined red and blue team that will compete on both vault and beam.  Everyone who has a routine on either of those events will present their routines in front of a panel of judges.  It is an exciting way to get the team ready for season, which everyone is getting energized for. The intersquad is in our practice gym this Friday at 3 p.m. and is open to the public. So if you would like to stop by and get some insight to the upcoming season, feel free to do so! We love performing in front of a crowd! I can’t wait for the season to start and for the team to show Tucson and all of the other teams across the country what the GYMCATS are made of!!!

That’s all for now,
