TUCSON, Ariz.- The seventh-ranked Arizona volleyball team snapped a two-match losing streak by defeating rival Arizona State, 3-1, Friday night at McKale Center. The victory elevated Wildcat head coach David Rubio's career record to 300-159 overall. The Wildcats improved their season record to 8-2 overall and 3-2 in the Pac-10. Game scores were 29-31, 30-16, 30-25, 30-22.

The Wildcats, who for the third straight match struggled at times, over came a 8-0 deficit in game one and eventually tied the game at 29 a piece. The comeback fell short and the Cats dropped their seventh consecutive game as the Devils took the opening frame with a two point swing late.

Arizona bounced back in a huge way in game two, limiting ASU to -.030 hitting for the game while the Cats racked up 12 kills on 24 attempts with six errors. UA went on two six-point scoring runs in the game to even the match at 1-1.

Game three went back and forth with neither team leading by more that three points until the Wildcats, leading 25-24, scored five of the next six points to win the game, and take the lead in the match.

Game four was all Arizona, as UA hit a match-high .310 in the final frame to put the match away and earn Rubio his 300th career victory.

The Wildcats hit .273 to ASU's .147, out-dug the Devils 57-46 and out-blocked them 13-8. Arizona tallied 70 kills on a season high 154 attempts with 28 errors while also tallying nine service aces to ASU's four.

Individually, Arizona had four players finish the match with double digits in kills. Paced by Lisa Rutledge's 17, senior Jill Talbot recorded 15 and Erin Sebbas smacked home 13 more. Sophomore Christina Frost, starting for the first time this season, had a career high 12 kills on .231 hitting while also posting 12 digs as well.

Senior Dana Burkholder dished out a season-high 54 assists in the win and also had 10 digs. Talbot and Rutledge chipped in with 15 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Wildcats have only one day off before returning to the court, as the team heads to the Bay Area for make-up dates with Stanford and California on Sunday and Monday. Match times are 1 p.m. with the Cardinal and 7 p.m. with the Golden Bears.
