TUCSON -The University of Arizona Wildcat women's golf team completed the first and second rounds of the Windy City Collegiate on Monday in Chicago. Hosted by Northwestern University at the Glen View Club, Arizona sits in second place after day one of competition.
The Wildcats shot 303 in the first round and improved to 292 in the second round for a total of 595 (+19). Arizona was in a tie for eighth place at the end of round one and sat as low as 14th earlier in the day. Oklahoma State leads the team race with a 589 (+13) and Ohio State rounds out the top three with a 596 (+20). Kristina Merkle of Tulsa leads the individual race with rounds of 71 and 71 for a total 142 (-2).
"I'm very proud of our come back today," head coach Laura Ianello said. "Paige Spiranac showed a lot of heart. Isabelle Boineau and Kyndall Ardoin showed off their hard work. Margarita Ramosis looking for a come back tomorrow. We need to play well and come out with a strong presence early to win tomorrow."
Freshman Paige Spiranac and senior Isabelle Boineauled the Cats during rounds one and two. Making her collegiate debut, Spiranac finished round one in a tie for sixth place and round two in a tie for eighth place. She carded two rounds of 73 for a total of 146 (+2). Boineau ended round one in a tie for 32nd place (76, +3) and fired a second-round score of 70 (-2) to move up to a tie for eighth place.
Making her season debut, junior Kyndall Ardoin sits in a tie for 16th place after two rounds. She picked up scores of 75 and 73 for a carding of 148 (+4). Senior Nikki Koller sits in a five-way tie for 52nd place. She scored rounds of 79 and 76 for a total of 155 (+11). Senior Margarita Ramosrounds out the Arizona five in 71st place with a total of 161 (+17).
Play in Chicago will resume at 7:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday.
