TUCSON, Ariz. ?C A trio of former Wildcat baseballers have been named to all star teams in their respective minor leagues. Former teammates John Meloan, Jordan Brown and Jason Donald have all been tabbed as mid-season all stars this summer.
Meloan, who went 24-4 at Arizona from 2003-2005 and was fifth-round selection by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2005 MLB draft, has cut up the AA Southern League through the first half of the year. The right-hander enters the final weekend of play prior the all star game with a 5-2 record, a league-best 16 saves, a 2.18 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 41 1/3 innings pitched. The Southern Leagueˇ?s midsummer classic will be held in Pearl, Miss., on Monday, July 9.
Brown, who hit 30 home runs and is just one of five players in school history with 80 or more RBI in a single season, was named to the AA Eastern League All Star Team after an impressive first half with the Cleveland Indiansˇ? Akron Aeros. Through the first 81 games of the Eastern League schedule Brown is batting .326 with a league-leading 100 hits, seven home runs and 56 RBI. The leagueˇ?s all star game is scheduled for Wednesday, July 11 in Norwich, Conn.
Donald, a three-year starter at shortstop and a third-round selection by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2006, was named to the A Southern Atlantic League All Star team back in June. The second-year pro batted .310 with 41 runs, 61 hits, four home runs and 30 RBI with the Lakewood BlueClaws but was promoted to Phillyˇ?s Class A Advanced team in Clearwater, Fla., prior to the all star game on June 20. ?
