Cats Earn National Top-25 Spots

TUCSON - After Saturday night's thrilling upset over then-No. 18-ranked Oklahoma State, 59-38, the University of Arizona Wildcat football team has earned top-25 spots in both the USA Today and Associated Press weekly college football polls, it was announced on Sunday.

In the AP poll, Arizona sits at No. 24 and is one of five Pac-12 teams in the ranking - No., 2 USC, No. 4 Oregon, No. 21 Stanford and No. 22 UCLA. In the USA Today poll, the Wildcats rank No. 25 and are one of five Pac-12 teams listed - No. 3 USC, No. 4 Oregon, No. 16 Stanford and No. 23 UCLA.

In Saturday's win, senior quarterback Matt Scott was 28 of 41 for 320 yards and two TDs. On the season, he has thrown for 707 yards and four TDs while amassing 129 yards and one score on the ground. He ranks No. 1 in the conference and tied for No. 2 nationally in total offense.

Sophomore running back Ka'Deem Carey scored four (three rushing, one receiving) of Arizona's six offensive touchdowns on Saturday. He had 26 carries for 126 yards and a long of 36, averaging 4.8 yards per play. He also hauled in four catches for 28 yards. He ranks second in the conference and ninth nationally in rushing

Sophomore safety Jared Tevis, making his second career start on Saturday, had nine tackles and the first interceptions of his career with two picks for 32 yards. Combined with junior linebacker Jake Fischer's 14 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery against Oklahoma State, the duo are ranked 1-2 in the Pac-12 in tackles.

The Wildcats will return to Arizona Stadium on Sat., Sept. 15 to host South Carolina State. The game is scheduled to kick at 7:30 p.m. and will air on Pac-12 Networks. Tickets are available at the McKale Center Ticket office, by visiting or by calling 520-621-2287 or 1-800-452-CATS.
