TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team finished in seventh place Tuesday at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Vestavia Hills, Ala.

Wildcat junior Juan Pablo Hernandez continued his strong play to open the season in carding a final-round 68 (-2) to finish the 54-hole event in a tie for sixth place at even-par 210.

The 210 aggregate total and sixth-place finish are career bests for the native of Mexico City, Mexico. In two events this season (six rounds), Hernandez has a pair of top-10 finishes to his credit and four rounds at par or better, including two rounds in the 60s.

As a team, Arizona was unable to move up from the seventh slot in which it began the round, posting a 295 (+15) tally Tuesday and finishing with an 874 (+34) total.

Texas won the 12-team event with an 836 (-4) tally. The Longhorns were the only squad to finish the event under par. Clemson (856) and host Alabama (856) tied for runner-up honors, while Auburn (864) and UAB (867) rounded out the top-five places.

Clemson's Corbin Mills shot a final-round 67 to claim individual medalist honors at nine-under 201.

UA's Chris Capo posted a 74 to finish in a tie for 18th place at eight-over 218. It marked the first career top-20 finish for the sophomore from Woodland Hills, Calif. Teammate Erik Oja collected a 29th-place finish with his 11-over 221 total.

Freshmen Tucker Wadkins and Brenden Redfern tied for 46th and 52nd places, respectively, after finishing with 227 (+17) and 233 (+23) totals.

The 54-hole Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate was contested at the Old Overton Club, a par-70, 7,204-yard layout.

The Wildcats will next be in action on Oct. 16-18 at the Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
