Tucson , Ariz. ?C The Arizona womenˇ?s basketball team played its annual Red & Blue scrimmage, falling to the Blue Team, 73-41, on Sunday afternoon in McKale Center.? The Blue Team was made up of Arizona's male practice players.

ˇ?We played some good guys, but we didnˇ?t compete the way we should be competing,ˇ± head coach Joan Bonvicini said.? ˇ?We need to play hard, and play to win.? I donˇ?t care who we play, we just need to play harder and we didnˇ?t do that today.? There were some moments that were good, but there is still a lot that we need to work on.ˇ±

As a team, the Wildcats shot 28.6 percent (16-56) from the floor and pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.? The Blue Team shot 48.4 percent (31-64) from the field and out-rebounded the Wildcats 47-29, but committed 16 turnovers.

Individually for Arizona, senior Ashley Whisonant led the team with nine points to go with four rebounds and four assists.? Senior Jessica Arnold and junior Beatrice Bofia added six points apiece, and junior Amina Njonkou posted six points and five rebounds.? Sophomore Rheya Neabors finished with five points and five rebounds.

The Blue Team was led by junior Matthew Duniganˇ?s 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field, and junior Chris Young posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds to go with a game-high six steals.

Arizona hung close with the Blue Team in the opening minutes with the score tied up at 4-4, but an 11-0 scoring run over the next 3:08 by the Blue Team put the Wildcats in a hole.? Arizona cut the deficit to 17-12 on a three-pointer by Arnold, but another 7-3 run gave the Blue Team a 24-15 advantage.? The Blue Team led Arizona 37-26 at halftime, shooting 53.6 percent (15-28) from the floor while holding the Wildcats to a 34.5 percent mark (10-29).

The Blue Team started hot out of the gates in the second half, racing out with a mini 8-4 run to go up 45-30.? The Wildcats cut the lead to 45-33 on a trey by Whisonant at the 14:42 mark, but the Blue Team responded with a 10-0 run over the next 2:28 to take a commanding 55-33 lead.? The Blue Team cruised from there, holding Arizona to 15 points and a 22.2 percent shooting percentage (6-27) in the second half for a 73-41 win.

Arizona will next face Vanguard University (Costa Mesa, Calif.) in an exhibition game on Monday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. in McKale Center.
