TUCSON - The Arizona Wildcats and the Washington State Cougars will continue the Pac-10 slate of women's basketball games with a contest at 2 p.m. MT on Sat., Jan. 22, at McKale Center.
The Arizona Wildcats and the Washington State Cougars will meet for the 61st time on Saturday. The Wildcats lead the series with the Cougars, 29-21. UA has won four-straight contests over WSU, including three victories during the 2009-10 season.
The Arizona Wildcats are 12-5 overall and 3-3 in the Pac-10. The Wildcats have three players averaging double-digit points in sophomore guard Davellyn Whyte (14.9), senior forward Ify Ibekwe (13.5) and senior forward Soana Lucet (11.4). Ibekwe leads Arizona at the glass with 9.6 rebounds per game and junior guard Shanita Arnold dishes out 5.6 assists per game.
The Washington State Cougars are 5-14 overall and 3-4 in Pac-10 play. Their Pac-10 wins have come at the hands of Oregon State, California and Arizona State. Sage Romberg paces the Cougars with 9.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
"Washington State is a tough team and they're going to come out here ready to play," head coach Niya Butts said. "When they get hot, they're very hard to contend with. They are a very good basketball team. It's going to be all about toughness. The tougher team is going to be the team that comes out with the win on Saturday. "
All Wildcat games can be heard live on KTUC AM 1400. All broadcasts will start 15 minutes prior to tip-off for the pre-game show. Entering their third season calling Arizona Wildcat women's basketball games will be Derrick Palmer (play-by-play) and Alysiah Bond (color).
