NASHVILLE, Tenn. ?- The Arizona Wildcats women’s golf team opened their season today at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Nashville Tenn. After the first round of play, the Wildcats are tied for 14th place.
As a team, Arizona shot 14 over par, ending its first round with a team score of 302. Missouri joins the Wildcats in 14th place after the first day.
Host team Vanderbilt leads the way after the first round. The Commodores shot nine under par, with a team total of 279. Duke and Georgia are currently tied for second, each shooting a 285 (-3).
Arizona senior Lani Elston-Marshall led the Wildcats in the individual category on Friday. Elston shot a 72 (par), which landed her in a 10-way-tie for 16th place. Fellow senior Cassandra Kirkland shot a one over par (73) and finds herself tied for 26th place.
Also competing for the Wildcats, senior Whitney Welch shot a six over par (78) to tie for 68th place. Making their collegiate debuts, freshmen Lauren Espinosa and Sommer Scholl shot a 79 and an 81 respectively.
Arizona will tee off tomorrow morning to begin the second round. The Mason Rudolph Championship continues through Sunday in Nashville, Tenn.
