Wildcats Qualify Ten for Final Day at NCAA Championships

Minneapolis, Minn. ?- The Arizona men’s swimming and diving tram completed the final day of preliminary action at the University Aquatic Center for the NCAA Championships, qualifying 10 swimmers to compete in this evening’s finals that begin at 7 p.m. (CST). The Wildcats are currently in third place with 292 points.


 Freshman Nick Thoman finished ninth overall in the 200-yard backstroke to qualify for the consolation finals with a time of 1:43.43. Junior Simon Burnett posted the fasted time in the 100-yard freestyle (42.49) to give him the No. 1 seed in the championship finals while teammate Lyndon Ferns finished sixth overall, also qualifying him for the championship finals (42.64).


Junior Dave Rollins finished fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:56.77 and freshman Ivan Barnes was 11th, finishing with a time of 1:57.95.  For the final event of the day, the 400-yard free relay composed of Burnett, freshman Gerhard Zandberg, sophomore Adam Ritter and Ferns finished fourth overall with a time of 2:52.88.

 Junior Tyler DeBerry is scheduled to swim the 1650-yard freestyle at 5:22 p.m.
