SAN DIEGO ?- Arizona women’s tennis senior Kasia Jakowlew and junior Camelia Todorova earned a trip to the round of eight at the ITA west regional.

The Arizona duo beat Guierrez and Koichumanova of CSUN and then went on to beat a UCSB tandem of Charlotte Scatliffe and Marta Simic 9-7.  Jakowlew and Todorova will hit the court Sunday at 9 a.m. for their match against Anca Anastasiu and Julie Smekodub of USC.

After twisting her ankle in the singles match on Saturday, Arizona sophomore Danielle Steinberg and freshman Natalia Toporowska were forced to retire from the doubles competition.

“It was unfortunate that Danielle had to retire early,” head coach Vicky Maes said.  “I have really liked the way we’re fighting, working and listening.  Overall, this has been a very productive tournament for us.”

The ITA Regional tournament will resume play from San Diego, Sunday at 9 a.m.
