Volunteer assistant Keith Francis begins his first season on the Arizona coaching staff, but the veteran coach is no stranger to Tucson or baseball.

Having most recently spent the past two years as an assistant on the coaching staff of Edgar Soto at Pima Community College in Tucson, he also was the head coach at Canyon Del Oro High School in town as well.

At CDO, Francis guided the Dorados to the Arizona 5A state championship in 2000 and again in 2002. While there he coached future Major Leaguers Brian Anderson (Chicago White Sox and a three-time letterwinner and All-American at Arizona) and Ian Kinsler (Texas Rangers), as well as a number of college Division I level players.

Prior to his stint at CDO, he spent two year (1997-98) at Maple Woods Community College in Kansas City, Mo. At Maple Woods he helped mentor another future Major Leaguer, Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Francis and his wife, Sue, currently reside in Tucson.
