MALIBU, Calif. ?- The Arizona men’s tennis team continued play on Friday, in the Wilson/ITA Fall Regional Championships in Malibu, Calif. 10. Arizona competed in five matches today as they went 3-2.
Competing in the round of 32 was senior No. 85 Colin O’Grady and juniors Tim Mullane and No. 29 Roger Matalonga. Mullane, in a well-fought match, fell to Benedikt Strong of San Diego State University, 7-6, 6-7, 6-2. No. 85 O’Grady fell to Jeremy Drean of UCLA, in another well battled match, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5. On the more positive side of things, No. 29 Matalonga defeated Alexis Rafidison of Pepperdine, 7-5, 6-1.
In the round of 16, No. 29 Matalonga defeated Nic Beuque of the University of San Diego, 6-2, 6-4.
On the doubles side of the court, the Wildcats won its only match of the day. No. 5 doubles partners Matalonga and O’Grady defeated Johan Berh and Jeff Kazarian of USC, 8-5.1
Matalonga will return to action tomorrow morning at 10:30, in the quarterfinals of singles action, as he will also continue play with his doubles partner O’Grady in a TBA.
