Head Coach Lute Olson

“The main point was to get out from the start on them. With the reserves we did well. Overall, Mustafa [Shakur] had a great game. Hassan [Adams] had four assist, that is the things you have to do. He had some nice passes and didn’t have the five turnovers he had been having for the past few games.”

“Defensively we played zone. The zone worked. I think we did a good job of making them work for shots. The zone was going to do that to them. Make them take the shots form outside. So we forced them to take the threes.”

“Overall we had a good solid defensive effort and we shot 63.5% from the field.”

“We also shot 53.3% from three point. Salim [Stoudamire] was 3-5. Jawann [McClellan] had some good ones. Chris [Rodgers] and Jesus [Verdejo] had their try at threes too.”

“It was a good team effort. It’s amazing how quick this season has gone. We expect a good crowd Saturday morning. That will be a huge factor against Stanford.”

Arizona Players’ Postgame Quotes

Sophomore Guard Mustafa Shakur:

“We shared the ball from start to finish.  Our big guys were finishing, and Salim (Stoudamire) was hot as usual.  I still think we can improve in some areas.  We made some mental mistakes on the defensive end, but it was a good game for us.”

”Everyone came out focused because of the loss last week.  We need to come out like that every game.  We had to come out that way.  Our intensity level was big.  Everyone played together.”

Senior Guard Salim Stoudamire:

“If someone is doing something that someone else doesn’t agree with, then we pull them aside.  We weren’t doing that enough before.  I told Channing (Frye) to step it up.”

“We have to set the tone early in the game and everyone will follow.  It’s about time we stepped things up.  When Channing and I are playing well, the team comes together.”

“I tried to establish myself early in the game.  I didn’t do that against Washington State, and I didn’t have a rhythm.”

“Guys were making hard cuts, and other people saw that.  That is a sign of a good team.”

Senior Center Channing Frye:

“It comes down to the beginning of the game.  We have to set the tone so we can go where we want to go.”

“I thought we played extremely well.  The zone is new to us, but guys were getting their hands on the ball.  We got some good picks from that.”

“We slowed down with the bench, but we had a strong game from everyone.  When we slowed down, we knew we had to cut that out real quick.  We thought we were up by more, but the momentum was slipping.”

“This wasn’t the game to play against us.  We cured our non-effort and our recommitment to the defensive end.”

“We need to go out and have fun.  We didn’t do that last Saturday, and that is why we lost.”

“I’m already thinking about Stanford.  I’ll go home and watch some tape.  I have the ASU game on Tivo.  I’m going to come out and try to have a good game and be ready from the start.”
