The victory improved the Wildcats to 31-7 overall and to 9-1 in the Pac-10, while the Cougars fell to 17-18 for the year and to 1-9 in the conference.</FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p><FONT size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=2><SPAN style="mso-tab-count: 1"> </SPAN>Guilmet, who had tossed nine innings in each of his last four starts, scattered seven hits over eight innings against the Cougars on Friday and finished the contest with 12 strikeouts to mark the fifth time this season he has reached double-digits.</FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=2><SPAN style="mso-tab-count: 1"> </SPAN>He allowed just the fifth earned run in his last 52 innings pitched and worked around a couple of jams to keep the Wildcats in the game and allow the offense to give him some support. </FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0.5in"><FONT size=2>Trailing 1-0 with just one single through the first six innings, <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Arizona</st1:place></st1:State> finally strung together three straight hits to come from behind in the top of the seventh. </FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0.5in"><FONT size=2>Brad Glenn nipped out a throw to first on a bang-bang play for a one-out infield single in the seventh for UA&rsquo;s first hit since the second inning to start the rally.</FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=2><SPAN style="mso-tab-count: 1"> </SPAN>Rhinehart, who missed UA&rsquo;s three-game series at Stanford last weekend with a concussion, then marked his return with a 1-0 line drive off of WSU starter Wayne Daman Jr. that skipped off the top of the wall in right for a two-run homer and a one-run UA advantage. It was the sixth HR of the season for the senior who entered the contest with a .538 batting average and four home runs in seven career games against <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Washington</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">State</st1:PlaceType></st1:place></FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=2><SPAN style="mso-tab-count: 1"> </SPAN>On the very next pitch Steele hit his fourth homer of the season and his second in the last four games, driving a blast over the left field fence, to make it 3-1 Cats. The consecutive homers marked the third time this season that UA has tallied back-to-back bombs in a game.</FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0.5in"><FONT size=2>From there it was two more shutout innings by Guilmet and an inning of freshman closer Jason Stoffel to close out the win. Guilmet (8-0) remained unblemished on the year and won his team-high-tying eighth game of the year, while Stoffel converted his third straight save opportunity.</FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0.5in"><o:p><FONT size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0.5in"><FONT size=2>WSU&rsquo;s Daman Jr. (2-3) was charged with a hard-luck loss after allowing all three runs on just the four hits. </FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0.5in"><o:p><FONT size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0.5in"><FONT size=2>Arizona and Washington State will meet up for game two of the three-game series on Saturday at 2 p.m. Left-hander Brad Mills (8-2) will try to break his tie with Guilmet for the team lead in wins as the scheduled starter for the Cats.</FONT></P>
