FEDERAL WAY, Wash. Nearly three weeks after defeating Arizona State in the regular season finale, the Arizona swimming and diving team returns to competition for the Pac-12 Championships at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.

The women’s swim meet along with both the men’s and women’s diving competition will kick off on Wednesday and conclude on Saturday. Meanwhile, the men’s swim meet will begin on Sunday and will run through Wednesday.

Wednesday’s opening day of competition will get underway at 6 p.m. (PT) with time trials followed by the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay.

Last season, the men finished third and the women came in fourth at the Pac-12 Championships.

The Arizona women enter the event ranked No. 6 in the most recent CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Coaches poll, while the men are ranked No. 10. The women are joined by five other Pac-12 squads in the top-25 and the men feature four schools from the league in the national poll.

The Arizona women are led by five-time All-American Bonnie Brandon, the Pac-12 Swimmer of the Month in January, owns the NCAA’s fifth fastest time in the 200 backstroke. Junior Rafael Quintero, one of the NCAA’s top freshman divers, enters championship week on a hot streak. He swept the one-meter, three-meter and platform events at the Bruin Invitational in January to kick off a string of 12 straight top-two finishes to close out the season.

On the men’s side, Kevin Cordes leads the way by owning the nation’s top time in both the 100 and 200 breast. Meanwhile, junior Giles Smith holds the top spot in the 100 fly and has the fourth fastest time in the 100 free. Mitchell Friedemann has the second fastest time in the 100 back and Matt Barber (500 free) and Kevin Steel (100 breast) also own top-10 times nationally. In addition, the Wildcats own the top time nationally in the 400 medley relay.
