TUCSON -- Olympian Lovie Jung hit a first-inning home run, followed by a second-inning Jackie Coburn blast to lead the Arizona Alumni over the current Wildcats, 4-1, in a time-shortened five-inning Alumni Game on Homecoming Saturday at Hillenbrand Stadium.
In the first, UA pitcher Lindsey Sisk had two outs to her credit when Jung slammed a 1-2 pitch to left center to plate the only run of the half-innning.
Brittany Lastrapes doubled to lead off for the Cats, but only advanced to third as three consecutive groundouts ended the inning.
Coburn's shot, a homer off the batter's eye in center, led off the Alumni second.
Sam Banister led off the UA second by reaching second base on a dropped fly ball in left field. After Karissa Buchanan came in to pinch run, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from K'Lee Arredondo plated Arizona's only run.
Two innings later, Erika Hanson-Barnes nabbed an RBI double down the left field line to plate another Alumni run. In the fifth, Caitlin Lowe hit a bases-loaded sac fly for the final run of the game.
Up Next: Arizona concludes its fall season, but will practice into November in preparation for the season opener at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, in February 2009.
