TUCSON, Ariz. ?- Arizona softball head coach Mike Candrea announced his team’s 2007 schedule on Friday.
The defending national champion Wildcats begin their title defense at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe on Feb. 9, before opening their home slate with the Worth Wildcat Tournament a week later.
In addition to hosting the Worth Wildcat, UA’s non-conference home schedule includes three-game sets with Texas A&M, Missouri and Louisiana-Lafayette throughout the year.
The Wildcats will play host to a pair of doubleheaders this year, the first of which is the Arizona Battle of Champions. On Feb. 28, Arizona will play Phoenix College and Pima College, winners of their respective NJCAA Championships. Two weeks later, UA will face Creighton in mid-week doubleheader.
Among Arizona’s road trips throughout the year, UA will play Baylor in a three-game series from March 9-11, before heading to the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Cailf., from March 15-18. The Titans are expected to announce the tournament’s full schedule, which always pits some of the nation’s best against each other, sometime next week.
The Wildcats open Pac-10 play on the road in Seattle against Washington on March 30, before playing a pair of matinees with UCLA on March 31 and April 1. UA will then renew its in-state rivalry with fellow 2006 WCWS participant Arizona State on April 6 and 7, for its first home Pac-10 tilt.
UA will wrap up its regular season against Washington on May 12 ?- its last scheduled game before NCAA Regionals commence on May 18.
- Arizona will host its annual fall tournament from Oct. 13-15, with Arizona Western, New Mexico, Central Arizona, the Hum Babe Cats, and Pima College as slated opponents.
- Arizona’s Alumni Game is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28 at noon.
