Women's Golf Jumps Up To Third At Pac-10 Championship

SOMIS, Calif. - The Arizona women's golf team jumped from seventh to tie with California in third, Tuesday after its second round of competition at the 2004 Pac-10 Championship in Somis, Calif.

The Wildcats shot a 39-over-par 615 to trail second-round leader, host UCLA by 10 strokes after the Bruins shot a 29-over-par 605. Southern California stands in second after shooting a 38-over-par 614. Washington (619) rounds out the top-five.

Individually, sophomore Erica Blasberg slipped to third after leading all competition going into the second round. Blasberg shot a second round 75 (+3) placing her at 2-over-par 146 for the tournament. The sophomore from Corona, Calif. finished third in last year's Pac-10 Championship.

Sophomore Lani Elston is tied for 8th after shooting 7-over-par 151. Sophomore Cassandra Kirkland and junior Mar Garcia are tied for 14th at 12-over-par 156 (Garcia is competing as a individual). Junior Miriam Kraschinski is tied for 36th place after shooting 18-over-par 162. While sophomore Whitney Welch shot a 41-over-par 185 for 58th place.

The Wildcats will tee off in Wednesday's final round beginning at 9:30 a.m. PST. The tournament is being held at Saticoy Country Club, par 72 over 6,405 yards.
