CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Arizona women’s tennis team competed against Virginia on Friday, at the Harvard Women’s Tennis Invitational, while Harvard and Rice squared off.
Teaming up on the doubles side for the Wildcats was sophomore Danielle Steinberg and junior Juliette Mavroleon. The duo knocked off Kristen McVitty and Jennifer Stevens of Virginia, 9-7.
Senior Kasia Jakowlew and freshman Natalia Toporowska defeated the Larston, Preeg duo 8-6 in their doubles match.
Rounding out Arizona’s doubles teams was junior Camelia Todorova and sophomore Tina Razloznik, who lost to Virginia’s Lara Alexander and Caroline Hammond 8-2.
Coming off a sprained ankle in her last tournament, Steinberg came out and showed no signs of pain, easily taking care of Lindsey Pereira, 6-1, 6-1.
Mavroleon and Toporowska both lost their opening singles matches 7-6, ret., and 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, respectively.
Jakowlew was able to fight hard and eventually knock off McVitty, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.
Razloznik was defeated by Stevens 6-1, 6-4.
Rounding out the Wildcats squad was Todorova, winning her singles match 6-4, 6-2 over Jessica Preeg.
The tournament runs through Sunday, Nov. 5.
