Five teams nationally ranked in final fall poll


TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men’s golf team will open its 2007 spring season by hosting the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate, Jan. 29-30, at Arizona National Golf Club.  Five of the 16 teams in the field were nationally ranked at the conclusion of the fall.


One of the finest college golf events in the nation, the 2007 PING-Arizona Intercollegiate is a 54-hole event, which will be contested at Arizona National, a par 71, 6,900-yard layout.  Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday, Jan. 29 with continuous play scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. MST.  The final 18 holes will start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31.


Five of the teams in the field finished the fall season ranked in the (Nov. 15) GCAA/Bridgestone Top-25 Coaches Poll.  The following teams are scheduled to compete (ranking): Arizona State (20), Brigham Young (17), California, UC-Irvine, East Tennessee State (15), Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Oregon, Pepperdine, Texas-El Paso, Tennessee (12), UNLV (14) and host Arizona (two squads).


The Wildcats, also receiving votes in the GCAA poll, posted one top-five finish in five fall events.

Individual:  Henry Liaw, Arizona (67-68-69=204/-9) * won four-hole playoff
