Arizona Softball - Worth Wildcat Invitational

The top-ranked Arizona softball team plays host to a 12-game tournament this weekend, with Hawaii, Norhtern Iowa and Marshall scheduled to mix it up with UA and with each other, but weather has changed the schedule for the opening day.

Immediately after the conclusion of the opening game, a quick hailstorm forced groundskeepers to tarp the infield, then a downpour canceled the 2 and 4 p.m. games.

Officials scheduled Arizona vs. Marshall for 6 p.m., weather permitting.

UA is 6-0 overall and top-ranked in the USA Softball poll and No. 2 behind California in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll. Junior pitcher Alicia Hollowell earned Pac-10 player of the week honors after her second career perfect game and fifth solo no-hitter last week against Tennessee-Chattanooga.

The 2 p.m. Hawaii-Marshall game was canceled, as was the Arizona-Northern Iowa game scheduled originally for 6 p.m.   The Friday schedule was revised in order to give each of the four team in the tournament a chance to play at least one game.

Note: Due to technical difficulties, live statistics for the Arizona vs. Marshall game are not available.

Revised Schedule for Friday, Feb. 18

Game 1, noon - Hawaii 3, Northern Iowa 1

Game 2, 6 p.m. - Arizona vs. Marshall

If Arizona's 6 p.m. game is not rained out, four tournament games will be played on Saturday with a schedule to be announced.
