LAS CRUCES, N.M.. - The Arizona Wildcat volleyball team concluded its non-conference 2010 schedule with a 3-1 win over New Mexico State Sunday night at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M. Set scores were: 20-25, 25-23, 25-16 and 25-17.
Tiffany Owens led the Cats Sunday with 20 kills and 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Paige Weber facilitated the offense with 49 kills as Courtney Karst and Cursty Jackson were also both in double-figure kills with 10 and 15, respectively.
Candace Nicholson led Arizona for the second consecutive match in digs, totaling 14 on the evening.
UA continued its trend of getting off to slow starts, dropping set one to the Aggies 25-20, before picking it up to take the next three on NMSU's home floor. The win gives Arizona its third true road victory in as many tries, something which bodes well come NCAA Tournament time.
Another trend which continued Sunday for Arizona is the difference in hitting percentage in wins and losses. UA now is now 12-0 when it hits for a better percentage than its opponent. Versus NMSU, UA hit at a .240 clip compared to the Aggies' .180.
Next up for Arizona is its first Pac-10 Conference road trip. The Cats will head to Oregon to first battle the OSU Beavers on Friday, Oct. 8 before going up against No. 11 Oregon on Saturday, Oct. 9. Both matches will start at 7 p.m. PT.
