PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. - The Arizona women's golf team stands tied for fourth with Ohio State, Monday after its first day of competition at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.

The Wildcats shot a 19-over-par 303 to trail first-round leader UCLA by 17 strokes after the Bruins shot a 2-over-par 286. New Mexico (299) and Southern California (302) occupy second and third places, respectively.

Individually Arizona sophomore Erica Blasberg is tied for ninth place with two other golfers after shooting a first round 73 (+2). The sophomore from Corona, Calif. is coming off a fall season during which she claimed three, first-place victories.

Sophomore Cassandra Kirkland is tied for 18th after shooting 4-over-par 75. Sophomore Lani Elston is tied for 24th at 5-over-par 76. Junior Mar Garcia is tied for 13th place after shooting 8-over-par 79 in round one. While junior Miriam Kraschinski shot a 12-over-par 83 to tie for 63rd place.

Also competing for Arizona, as an individual is sophomore Whitney Welch who is in 77th place after carding 16-over-par 87.

The Wildcats will tee off in Tuesday's second round beginning at 9:00 a.m. PST. The tournament is being played at Palos Verdes Golf Club, a par 71, 5,912-yard layout.
