TUCSON - A top-10 finish from junior Margarita Ramos led the No. 11 University of Arizona Wildcat women's golf team to a third-place finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Wednesday. The three-round event was played at the Boulder Creek Golf Course (par 72/6,329 yards).
No. 19 Arkansas won the event with a three-round score of 846 (-18). No. 26 Kent State finished second, carding a score of 869 (+5), and the Wildcats rounded out the top three with an 872 (+13).
"We're obviously disappointed every time we don't come away with a victory but there were a few bright spots this week," head coach Laura Ianello said. "Margarita Ramos continued to lead the team and she collected her third top-10 finish this year. The team has some work to do before the Pac-10/SEC Challenge but we're confident we will have our best stuff ready for next week."
Ramos, ranked No. 40, moved from 13th to tied for 10th in the final round of play. She scored rounds of 73, 69 and 72 for a total of 214 (-2). Junior Nikki Koller improved to a tie for 20th. She collected scores of 74, 71 and 75 for a three-day total of 220 (+4). No. 54 junior Isabelle Boineau finished the three-day tournament in a tie for 23rd place with a compiled score of 221 (+5) from rounds of 72, 69 and 80.
Sophomore Kyndall Ardoin finished tied for 24th with a three-day score of 223 (+7) and rounds of 79, 67 and 77. No. 41 senior Alejandra Llaneza was Arizona's final golfer in the team scoring. Over three rounds, she carded a 224 (+8) with rounds of 76, 71 and 77.
Sophomore Haley Andreas, competing as an individual, finished in a tie for 64th. Her three-round total of 230 (+14) came from rounds of 82, 72 and 76.
