Throughout the Arizona Wildcat women's basketball season, freshman Candice Warthen will keep a weekly blog about life as a Pac-10 freshman. Check back for more updates from Candice!
Hello Wildcat Fans!
This weekend was special because it was senior weekend. We played some really tough games against the southern California schools. This weekend was important for us like most weekends but mostly because we were playing to get a better standing so our chances to go to the NCAA tournament increase. UCLA was a really tough game. We battled throughout the game and came out short. We lost by four but we never gave up. As a team, our effort to win this game was high especially knowing that we had the possibility and the talent to beat a team ranked 11th in the country.
Saturday was a big day because of senior night so we were really confident in winning this game. We knew that we would win this game by rebounding, effort and defense and that is what we did. Towards the end they were coming back but by boxing them out and battling, we got the win over USC. The reason why we have been playing so good is because we are playing as a team, and also because everybody is contributing from the starters to the bench. Our bench has been really big for us during those last few games and we know that if our starters are struggling or in foul trouble, our bench can come in and do just as much if not better than the starters. Shout out to our seniors: Ify Ibekwe(aka Staci), Soana Lucet(aka So Bomb), Amanda Pierson(aka Lil C) and Tasha Dickey(aka Sausage).
Now we have the last two games of the regular season at Oregon State on Thursday and at Oregon on Saturday. Like we always say, EVERY game in the Pac-10 is important. We need to continue to play good team basketball and keep our momentum going as we close out the regular season and have the Pac-10 Tournament right around the corner. Coach preaches one game at a time and that's how we have to look it. There are no easy wins in the Pac-10 and we'll battle every game.
Thanks for reading my blog! Go Cats!
