TUCSON - University of Arizona Wildcat women's golf signee Janie Jackson has qualified for the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, in Alabama, later this week. The native of Huntsville, Ala. earned her spot in the LPGA event with a solid round of play at The Crossings course on the Robert Trent Jones Trail's Magnolia Grove, on Monday.
The Mobile Bay LPGA Classic begins Thursday and concludes Saturday for those who make it beyond Friday's cut. Jackson made the cut at the Navistar LPGA Classic in Prattville last year, with help from rounds of 67 and 70. Jackson announced her intent to play for Arizona during the signing period in November. She'll join the Wildcats as a true freshman in the fall of 2012.
She is ranked in the top 20 of the 2012 class. She is also an American Junior Golf Association tour winner. Jackson competed in the U.S. Junior Championships and made it to the final 16. She played in the 2011 Navistar LPGA in Alabama and made the cut, shooting a 67 in the second round.
Women's golf will play next Friday-Sunday at the Pac-12 Championships, hosted in Pullman by Washington State University.
