Flowers Named National Linebacker of the Week

TUCSON - Four members of the Arizona football team were recognized by the College Football Performance Awards, it was announced Sunday. The Wildcats picked off their second ranked opponent of the season with Saturday's 39-36 victory over then-No. 10 USC.

Junior Marquis Flowers was named the National Linebacker of the Week. In a game dominated statistically by offensive players, Flowers turned in a sterling performance on the defensive side, accounting for three takeaways against USC. Flowers finished the game with a pair of interceptions, a forced fumble and seven total tackles. On the game's opening possession, Flowers halted a 13-play drive for the Trojans when he intercepted Matt Barkley at the UA 26-yardline. Flowers returned it 14 yards, which set up a seven-play, 60-yard touchdown for the Wildcats to claim an early edge. The interceptions were the second and third of Flowers' career. His three forced turnovers were a part of a five turnover-day for the defense, which registered its most takeaways in a game since Aug. 31, 2008, against Idaho.

Senior Matt Scott was named Honorable Mention Quarterback of the Week. He accounted for four touchdowns and 469 yards of total offense to spearhead a furious second-half rally by the Wildcats. He completed 27-of-50 passes for 369 yards and three touchdowns, and added a career-best 100 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Facing a 28-13 deficit midway through the third quarter, Scott's 10-yard rushing touchdown ignited a 26-0 scoring run as the Wildcats scored on four-consecutive possessions in a stretch of 13 minutes and 20 seconds.

Sophomore Austin Hill was named Honorable Mention Receiver of the Week. He was paced the Arizona offense with 10 catches for a career-best 259 yards. Saturday's game marked his fourth 100-yard game of the season and the fifth of his career. In 2012, Hill has a total of 54 catches for 937 yards and seven touchdowns. He averages 17.4 yards per haul and 117.1 yards per game. He ranks fourth in the Pac-12 and tied for 21st nationally in receptions per game (6.75) and No. 2 in the league and No. 5 nationally is yards per game (117.1).

Sophomore Ka'Deem Carey was named Honorable Mention All-Purpose Performer of the Week. Against USC, he recorded 119 rushing yards and one touchdown on the ground while catching two passes for eight yards. Saturday's game marked Carey's sixth 100-yard rushing game of the season. He totals 961 yards on 183 carries in 2012. He ranks No. 3 in the Pac-12 and 12th nationally with 120.12 rushing yards per game.

Arizona hits the road on Sat., Nov. 3 for a matchup at UCLA. The game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff and will air live on the Pac-12 Networks.
