TUCSON?-The Arizona football team completed its seventh practice of fall camp Thursday morning at the Rincon Vista complex. The practice was the first of two scheduled for today.

The team returned to their own practice fields after spending the last two days working out at Pima College East Campus. The players wore only helmets and shoulder pads and continued to work on their basic individual drills, special teams, 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 situations.

During the 7-on-7 passing segment, sophomore quarterback Richard Kovalcheck completed six of nine passes while finding six different receivers. Junior Adam Austin was one for six passing while freshman Willie Tuitama completed his only pass attempt. Senior defensive backs Darrell Brooks and Lamon Means each broke up passes.

The team then went through an hour-long team segment emphasizing both passing and rushing plays.

The Wildcats will practice again at the Rincon Vista complex this evening at 6:00 p.m.

Notes: Head coach Mike Stoops took the morning off from briefing the media ...The morning session marked the first practice of fall camp that began at its originally scheduled time or location albeit in the warmest and most humid conditions thus far ... The Wildcats worked on their punt coverage unit during the special teams segment with senior Danny Baugher handling all the punting duties.

Evening Report

The Wildcats returned to the practice field for their first evening practice of fall camp. The players again wore shoulder pads and helmets as they went through their typical practice schedule.

Head coach Mike Stoops spoke briefly with the media following practice.

“The kids are much more confident now than a year ago. You can see a big difference in their play.”

Stoops has also been impressed with the development of the offense.

“I like where we’re at offensively. We’re much more physical at the point of attack. The running backs are running hard. We’re starting to make more plays.”

The team will practice Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Rincon Vista complex. As with all fall camp practices, times and locations are subject to change due to weather or field conditions.
