EL PASO, Texas - Arizona senior Ricky Barnes and junior Chris Nallen stand tied for 19th place at 11-over-par 153 after the opening two rounds of the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic.
Barnes, a senior from Stockton, Calif., opened the tournament by shooting 10-over-par 81 in the morning round, but rebounded to post an afternoon score of 1-over 72 to close the day at 11 strokes over par. Nallen, a junior from Blairstown, N.J., posted rounds of 76 and 77 to position himself at 11-over-par with 18 holes to go.
The tournament, being held at the El Paso Country Club, features 24 of the nation's top individual golfers and does not include a team scoring component.
Adam Rubinson of Texas Christian leads the tournament as he shot 71-68-139 (-2) Monday. Three golfers, Brendon De Jonge of Virginia Tech, Dustin Bray of North Carolina and John Holmes of Kentucky, all share second place at even-par 142.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with the final 18-hole round. Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. on holes No. 1 and 10. Barnes and Nallen will play together in the final round, starting at 7:40 a.m. on the 10th hole.
The Arizona men's golf team recently concluded its fall season at the Collegiate Match Play Championship on Nov. 10, where it took third place. The spring season opens Feb. 3 when Arizona plays host to the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate.
