The Arizona volleyball team (12-4, 2-2) dropped its second conference match of the season, falling to No. 4 Stanford 3-0 Friday night in Palo Alto, Calif.
The Wildcats played the Cardinal tough in the first set, pulling to 22-23, but could never overcome Stanford, losing 25-22, 25-18 and 25-16.
As a team, the Wildcats only registered four fewer kills than the Cardinal (37-41), but had 11 more attack errors (20-9). Arizona also hurt itself with eight service errors.
In the first set, the Wildcats matched the nationally ranked Cardinal point for point. Arizona had it’s most productive set of the night with 15 kills and a .278 hitting percentage, but the Wildcats could never duplicate that production and host Stanford controlled much of sets two and three. For the game the Wildcats hit .157 compared to the Cardinal’s .327 clip.
Arizona heads across the Bay to battle No.5 California tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.
