Minneapolis , Minn. - After leading the first two days of the 2007 NCAA Championships, the No. 4 Arizona womenˇ?s swim team finished second for the third time in school history with 477 points. The Wildcats tallied two individual champions, two relay titles, while also breaking six school and two American records, as 14 athletes posted a total of 48 All-American honors.

?

The Wildcats were only 58 points from taking the team title from Auburn, the defending national champions, which marked its fifth first-place finish in six years.

ˇ?This is probably the best NCAAs that the women have ever had,ˇ± head coach Frank Busch said. ˇ?We were in the lead going into this last day and these girls just had an incredible three days of competition. The records that were set are unprecedented, and I am just really proud of what they accomplished. We are so excited not only about this, but the future because we have such a young squad, but we are certainly going to miss the leadership of senior Whitney Myers.ˇ±

?

For the final day of competition, Myers and junior Lacey Nymeyer nearly grasped two more individual titles to add to their achievements at the meet. Nymeyer finished second in the 100 free, breaking the school record she set in the event during this morningˇ?s prelims with a time of 47.34. Myers also finished second in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.75, nearly breaking her own school record (1:53.19) which she set in 2004.

?

Also in the 100 free, sophomore Anna Turner finished 13th with a personal best time of 49.04.

?

In the 200 back, freshman Caitlin Iversen finished sixth overall with a time of 1:55.23, while classmate Andrea Boritzke finished 15th (1:57.39).

?

Junior Jacquelyn Craft finished seventh in the 200 breast with a time of 2:12.26, as freshman Annie Chandler finished 14th (2:13.03).

?

For the final event of the championships, the 400 free relay team of Nymeyer, sophomore Lindsey Kelly, Turner and Myers finished second with a time of 3:13.36.

?

The menˇ?s swim team will travel to Minneapolis, Minn. on March 15-17 to compete at the 2007 NCAA Championships. Preliminary action will begin at 12 p.m. (CST) and finals will start at 7 p.m.
