Arizona swimmers Ana Agy and Lacey Nymeyer were named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All District VIII teams today.
Agy, a sophomore from Park City, Utah earned first-team honors for her 3.90 grade point performance in a pre-business major. Nymeyer, a senior from Tucson, earned second-team honors with a 3.84 GPA in physical education.
Both were key members in Arizona's first NCAA Women's Swimming Championship in March, earning multiple All-America honors. Nymeyer won the 100 freestyle, finished second in the 200 free, sixth in the 50 free and was part of four NCAA title relays including American-record breaking 400 medley, 200 free and 400 free quartets. Agy swam the butterly leg on the winning 400 medley relay, finished sixth in the 100 backstroke, seventh in the 100 butterfly and 12th in the 200 backstroke. Their performances help fuel Arizona's runaway title.
Agy and Nymeyer both earned first-team Academic All-Pac-10 honors this year and Nymeyer won the UA's Ruby Award as the top female student-athlete as well as the Pac-10's inaugural Toyo Tires Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for her sport.
As a first-team all-district selection, Agy will be on the ballot for Academic All-America selection as voted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
