Arizona Men?s Tennis off to Rough Start in National Collegiate Tennis Classic

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. ?- Both senior Roger Matalonga and sophomore Bruno Alcala split their two matches on the day. Matalonga won his first match 6-1, 6-0 over Virginia’s Andrew Downing. Alcala dropped his first match against Virginia’s Treat Huey.


In the second round, Matalonga fell to UCLA’s Michael Look 6-3, 6-3. Alcala, meanwhile, rebounded from his early loss winning his consolation match against Pepperdine’s Denis Reinert 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.


Matalonga and Alcala paired up in doubles but lost their first round match to Virginia’s Eric Riley and Treat Huey 8-3.


Play resumes tomorrow with Alcala still alive in the consolation single’s bracket.
