Torresgrosa Posts Double-Double in Collegiate Debut as Cats Win Opener

EL PASO, Tex. (September 1) -- Freshman outside hitter Shannon Torregrosa, in her collegiate debut, led all players with 17 kills and 14 digs, leading No. 15 Arizona to a 15-11, 15-13, 15-13 road sweep of Texas-El Paso in the season-opener for both teams Wednesday night.

Junior middle blocker Marisa DaLee, who set a school record with a .386 hitting percentage a year ago, hit .480 (16-4-25) to pace the Cats, while Allison Napier, also a junior middle blocker, added 11 kills. Sophomore setter Lauren Benward, subbing for starter Dana Burkholder who is with the United States Junior National Team at the World Championships in Canada, recorded 41 assists.

Junior outside hitter Stacy Zimmerman led all Miners with 14 kills.

The match was the 200th of head coach David Rubio's tenure at Arizona. He has a 124-76 mark in his eighth season in Tucson.

The Cats return home to play host to the Embassy Suites Wildcat Classic this Friday and Saturday. Play begins at 9:30 a.m. each day. Arizona faces Kent State at 2:30 p.m. Friday and Santa Clara at 7:30 in the evening. Admission is free Friday.
