Burkholder Leads U.S. Team To Quarterfinals At World Juniors

SASKATOON (Sept. 2) -- The final eight have now been determined at the 1999 World Junior Women's Volleyball Championships in Canada.

The United States will take on Korea in the semifinals Friday. The U.S. won its first three contests before falling to China Wednesday.

The United States team is led by Arizona sophomore Dana Burkholder. Burkholder has started at setter in each of the U.S. matches and is joined on the squad by Wildcat teammate Lisa Rutledge, a freshman. Arizona and Stanford are the only schools in the nation represented by two players on the U.S. Junior National Team.

After the drawing of the lots, the following Quarterfinal playoff pairings were set for Friday 3:

12:00 (18:00 GMT)- Czech Republic vs. China
14:00 (20:00 GMT)- Korea vs. USA
18:30 (00:30 GMT)- Poland vs. Brazil
20:30 (02:30 GMT)- Russia vs. Japan

Japan def. Yugoslavia 3-1 (25-19, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19)
