TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona women’s gymnastics coach Bill Ryden announced today that Suzanne Alvey has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Arizona. Alvey joins five other incoming freshmen who signed in November.

Alvey, a 5-4 senior at The King’s Academy in Marietta, Ga., is a member of the Gwinnett Gymnastics Center. She recently became the 2005 Level 10 state all-around and beam champion. In 2004, she earned the Level 10 regional bar championship and was a Junior Olympic national competitor. Alvey also won the Level 9 state bar championship in 2001.

“She has the desire and hunger we look for in a gymnast,” Ryden said. “We feel she can develop into a major contributor for us. It’s apparent she has a love for the sport and a desire to improve.”

Arizona signed Breanne Workman, Alexis Greene, Sarah Specht, Briana Bergeson and Sarah Parsons to Letters of Intent in November. It was the largest single class in the history of the program.
