TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona Volleyball team started the Arizona Invitational presented by Lodge on the Desert Friday afternoon with a sweep of Texas State. Set scores were: 26-24, 25-16 and 25-13.
With the win, Arizona improves to 8-2 while Texas State falls to 6-6 on the season.
The Wildcats continued its trend of sluggish opening sets, as Texas State hung tough with UA all throughout the first set before the Cats finally pulled out the set, 26-24.
Sets two and three were a much different story as Arizona led comfortably from start to finish in each. In set three leading 19-5, UA attempted to get a few reserves some playing time, but Texas State quickly went on a 6-0 run. The lead was never seriously in question though as the Wildcats won the set 25-13.
Whitney Dosty led UA with an efficient outing, going for 14 kills and just one error on 29 swings. Tiffany Owens also posted double-digit kills with 12 and added four digs. Paige Weber had 32 assists and six digs. Tarryn Luafalemana and Kaylen Bannister also made their season debuts for the Wildcats.
Tonight, the Wildcats continue the Arizona Invitational with a 7 p.m. match against The Waves of Pepperdine.
