TUCSON, Ariz. ?C The University of Arizona menˇ?s golf team shot an one-over-par 289 Friday and in a tie for third place at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
Bolstered by two players at par or better, Arizonaˇ?s opening round placed the team in a tie for third in the 17-team field. Ohio State leads the field at five-under 283, while Pepperdine (288), San Diego State (289) and Colorado (290) rounded out the top-five places.
Arizona senior Creighton Honeck led the way for the Wildcats, carding a four-over 68 to stand tied for third place after 18 holes. . Freshman Tarquin MacManus shot an even-par 72 and stood in 12th place.
Freshman Andrew Kelly shot a two-over 74 and is tied for 28th place, while Roberto Galletti is tied for 36th place after an opening-round 75 (+3). Junior Tyler Neal is tied for 68th place with a six-over 78.
Two Wildcats are competing in the field as individuals, Nicholas Park and Trey Denton. Park is tied for 18the place with a one-over 73, while Denton is in 36th place with a three-over 75.
The William H. Tucker Intercollegiate is hosted by the University of New Mexico and concluded tomorrow. The Championship course is a par-72, 7,350-yard layout.
