<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><B style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">TEMPE</B></st1:City><B style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">, <st1:State w:st="on">Ariz.</st1:State> ? </B>The No. 1-ranked <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Arizona</st1:State></st1:place> softball team bounced back from a defeat early in the day with a gutsy 4-3 victory over No. 4 Northwestern Saturday night.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Arguably the feature contest in this year&rsquo;s <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Kajikawa Classic</st1:City>, <st1:State w:st="on">Arizona</st1:State></st1:place> and Northwestern locked horns in a game that featured a pair of lead changes and a combined 37 base runners for the two squads.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">UA freshman pitcher Sarah Akamine (2-0) scattered nine hits over six and one-thirds innings, allowing just one earned run as she struck out six NU hitters.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Junior Taryne Mowatt earned her first career save, as she struck out the only two batters she faced ? both of which represented the potential game-winning run.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Arizona</st1:place></st1:State> jumped on NU starter Eileen Canney for one run on two hits in the first.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Caitlin Lowe extended her carry over hit streak to eight games by leading off the game with a bunt single.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>K&rsquo;Lee Arredondo continued the rally with an infield single of her own, placing runners at first and second for the Wildcats.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Kristie Fox then hit a ball up the middle, which was scooped up by NU shortstop Tammy Williams who stepped on second for a fielder&rsquo;s choice.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">With one out and runners on the corners, Canney failed to field a Jenae Leles, allowing Lowe to score the game&rsquo;s first run.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">In the bottom of the third, Northwestern tied the game 1-1 on a controversial sacrifice fly.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Williams ignited the offense with a long single off the outfield wall in right-center field.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>An <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Arizona</st1:place></st1:State> error placed runners at first and third with one out for NU cleanup hitter Erin Dyer.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The Northwestern catcher flied out to right field, and with Williams tagging UA right fielder Adrienne Acton gunned the ball home.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Williams plowed into UA catcher Callista Balko, dislodging the ball before it was secured and scoring the game-tying run.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Northwestern rallied for one run in the fourth, giving the Big Ten Wildcats their first lead of the game.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>After a one-out single Kelly Dyer hit a comebacker, which Akamine threw over second base and into center field, giving NU runners at first and second.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>NU pinch hitter Emily Haug singled to load the bases.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Following a fielder&rsquo;s choice that kept the bases juiced.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Akamine then induced Williams into a groundball, but a UA error allowed NU to score the go-ahead run.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p> </o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Following a scoreless fifth, UA scratched out three runs to take a 4-2 advantage.
