Arizona Softball

Game 28 - vs. Missouri Tigers (Doubleheader Game 2)

Arizona cruised to a 7-0 victory in the second game of a Sunday softball doubleheader that closed a three-game series sweep against Missouri.

Morgan LeCluyse snapped Arizona pitcher Alicia Hollowell's streak of hitless pitching at 18 innings with a first-inning single.

Hollowell had pitched a final hitless inning against Stanford Feb. 29, seven against Indiana in a perfect game March 6, one against UTEP in relief March 7, seven against Missouri with a no-hitter Friday, and two in relief to earn a save against Mizzou earlier Sunday.

Arizona jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first. Caitlin Lowe led off with a double, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on a ground ball by Wendy Allen. UA pushed it to 3-0 in the second with an RBI single by Kristie Fox and a delayed double steal worked by Allyson Von Liechtenstein and Fox, with the latter stealing home.

The Cats picked up a couple more runs in the third, using short tactics. Loew hit a bunt single and stole second. Champion singled to short right field and scored a sliding Lowe. Champion stole second and moved to third on Allen's sacrifice. Mackenzie Vandergeest scored Champion from third with an infield ground ball.

Lowe singled and stole seconds in the fifth, then scored on a hit by Champion, who took second on a throw to the plate. Wendy Allen doubled to bring in pinch-runner Betsy Wilson to make it 7-0.

Leslie Wolfe pitched the final two innings for Hollowell, who improved to 16-0 with the five-inning effort.

Arizona is 28-0. Missouri dropped to 10-15.
