TUCSON--South Florida (4-7-1) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to win a see-saw Game 2 of the Pepsi Arizona Softball Classic over Nex Mexico State (6-9). The Bulls banged out 16 hits in the game while the Aggies had 17.
Courtney Lewellan's fielder's choice grounder scored Shelly Riker from third for the winning run. Stephanie Roberts had a two-run triple and Niki Trowell singled in a run earlier in the frame.
NMSU jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the first when Linzi Wescott singled and Kelly Rhyne homered to left.
USF answered in the bottom of the inning. Stephanie Roberts singled, stole second and scored when Shelly Riker singled and the throw sailed wide at first, then an out later Courtney Lewellan homered to center to tie the game.
Roberts hit a stand-up triple to right-center to drive in a run in the second and give USF a 3-2 lead, but Christina Stephens doubled in a run and Mel Briggs hit a sacrifice fly for NMSU in the top of the third to re-gain the lead.
Rena Rodriguez doubled in a run and Racel Williams singled her in to give the lead back to USF, 5-4, in the bottom of the inning.
Linzi Westcott and Stephens had run-scoring singles, Briggs hit a two-run double and Tersha Brown singled in a run in the top of the fourth to put NMSU back on top, 9-5.
The Bulls added a run in the fourth to close to 9-6.
