Lara Jackson named Pac-10 Swimmer of Month

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – University of Arizona senior Lara Jackson has been named the Pac-10 Swimmer of the Month for December, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.


Jackson had an impressive showing at the Texas Invitational and led the Wildcats to a first-place finish in Austin, Texas. The El Paso, Texas, native set a new American, NCAA and school record in the 50 free with a time of 21.33. Jackson also set a new school record in the 100 butterfly with a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 51.12.  The senior swam the first leg of the Wildcats’ 200 free relay team which placed first with a time of 1:27.72 and swam the third leg of the 200 medley relay team that won with a time of 1:36.02. Both relays earned NCAA automatic qualifying marks.


This marks the first monthly honor for Jackson and the third Women’s Swimmer of the Month all-time for Arizona.


The Wildcats host West Virginia today at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center beginning at 2 p.m. MST.
