(April 29) -- Five former University of Arizona women's basketball players appeared on different WNBA rosters as the league's training camp began on Monday.
This year's two seniors Elizabeth Pickney (Sacramento Monarchs) and LaKeisha Taylor (Indiana Fever) were drafted by their respective teams on April 19 in the fourth round of the annual WNBA draft. On April 25, three other former Wildcats were also allocated by the WNBA as free agents to different teams -- Adia Barnes (1995-98) to the Seattle Storm, Angela Lackey (1999-2000) to the Charlotte Sting and Tatum Brown (1999-2000) to the Cleveland Rockers. Gaining spots on training camp rosters provides all five former Cats the opportunity to make their respective squads.
Teams can carry 18 players on their training camp rosters until Wednesday, May 8, when they will be required to cut rosters to 15. Final rosters must be submitted by Friday, May 24, and can consist of only 11 players with two more on injured reserve. League action begins on Memorial Day weekend.
